Join Padmaja Kochera (Paddy) at The Food Hub for a hands-on day exploring the vibrant flavours, spices and dishes of authentic Indian home cooking.
Paddy is a chef, food writer and passionate home cook whose love of Indian food began in childhood. Her cooking is simple, authentic and packed with flavour, combining traditional recipes and techniques with her own creative approach.
In 2008, Paddy was a winner on the BBC Two programme Step Up to the Plate, where talented cooks were challenged alongside professional chefs Paul Rankin and John Burton Race.
About the Course
Discover the incredible variety of Indian cooking and learn how to recreate authentic flavours in your own kitchen.
Throughout the day, Paddy will introduce you to the spices and ingredients at the heart of Indian cuisine, showing you how to combine, toast and balance them to create depth and flavour. Cooking alongside Paddy, you'll prepare a selection of dishes from scratch while picking up plenty of practical tips, techniques and ideas to take home with you.

Suitable for beginners and enthusiastic home cooks alike, Taste of India is a relaxed and sociable day of cooking, learning and, most importantly, eating.
The course includes all ingredients and equipment, recipe notes, refreshments throughout the day and a delicious lunch featuring the dishes prepared during the course.
Padmaja Kochera at The Food Hub…
Padmaja is a Civil Engineer by profession and also a Chef and food writer. Paddy (as she is known) loves home cooking and has infectious enthusiasm for authentic Indian cuisine. In 2008, she was a winner on the BBC 2 programme ‘Step Up to the Plate’ which challenges the talents of upcoming chef against Paul Rankin and John Burton Race.
Paddy spent her childhood eating authentic Indian food. Her cooking style is simple, authentic and flavoursome. She has an experimental style, which incorporates trying new techniques and methods to provide her own twist on traditional Indian recipes.

So many people love an Indian curry but don’t know how to cook it or recreate that authentic Indian flavour at home. Our Introduction to Simple Indian Cooking course, with Padmaja Kochera, will introduce you to Indian spices and give you a hands on lesson, so you can learn how to cook simple, yet delicious Indian dishes in the comfort of your own kitchen!
The course will run from 10.00am until 3.00pm and includes practical and demonstration cookery sessions, lunch and refreshments. All the ingredients, equipment and the recipes for the day will be provided.
