Cooking with Confidence: Knife Skills

Cook with Confidence: Knife Skills
Date: Wednesday 20th January
Times: 6pm - 8pm | Chef: Lily Benbow

Build confidence with one of the most useful skills in the kitchen in this practical, hands-on evening at the Food Hub Cookery School.

The course will be led by Lily Benbow, an experienced private chef and founder of Noble Prawn. A graduate of both Dublin’s College of Catering and the renowned Ballymaloe Cookery School, Lily has cooked professionally across East Anglia and Europe.

Lily will guide you through using a chef’s knife safely and effectively—from holding and sharpening your knife to chopping, slicing, dicing and preparing a range of everyday ingredients.

You’ll practise a variety of classic cuts while learning to work more efficiently, safely and confidently. The ingredients prepared during the evening will then be used to create a simple seasonal dish, helping you put your new skills into practice straight away.

During the course you’ll learn:

  • How to hold and use a chef’s knife correctly

  • Basic knife safety

  • How to sharpen and care for your knives

  • Slicing, dicing and chopping techniques

  • Preparing onions, herbs and vegetables

  • Basic julienne, dice and chiffonade cuts

  • How to work more efficiently when preparing food

Suitable for complete beginners and anyone looking to improve their basic kitchen skills, this is a relaxed and practical evening designed to make everyday cooking quicker, easier and more enjoyable.

The course includes all ingredients and equipment, recipe notes and refreshments throughout the evening.
